The boat takes 9-10 hours to Luang Prabang before dark. It’s better for you to start early, you have to stay on the Lao side. It better to pick you up in at your Huay Xai, you can cross the border one day before to spend a night in Huay Xai.

The border is closing afternoon at 8 pm.

Day 1: One day boat trip from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang

Early in the morning my team will pick you up at your hotel 7 am to take you to the boat, include lunch on the boat, tea, coffee, some water and fruit. The boat will departure at 7:30 am from Huay Xai slow boat pier downstream through Thailand border on the right hand side then the boat will stop at Paktha for check point, then continue journey you will see local people along the way such as fisher man farmer, banana plantation, animal such as water buffalo, crews, golds, snake, birds, kingfisher, elephants…

You will pass one more bridge from Oudomxai to Thailand, So Thai border just nearby here only 50 kilometers, at noon will stop at Pakbeng for check point, just 10 minutes.

Pakbeng is a small town, it a check point and where the tourist boat will stop for an overnight, elephant camp an activity to do here, this is the best way to go to China by road.

Arrival at Luang Prabang and transfer to your hotel at 6 PM.
