Can Cau and Bac Ha Markets are both very well known. On this trip you will have the opportunity to visit one of the smallest local markets and the largest ones in the same area. They are also both very colorful by Flower Hmong minority as well as others such as Phu La, Black Dao, Tay and Nung. The market provides a variety of local products such as corn wine, handicraft as well as an interesting animal market. You will also enjoy a short walk to Ban Pho village of Nung and Flower Hmong and a boat ride up stream Chay River.

Day 1 (Saturday): Sapa Tours to Can Cau and Bac Ha Markets for 2 Days : Lao Cai – Bac Ha – Can Cau – Bac Ha (-/L,D)

: Can Cau Market

After having breakfast, you will travel by car to Bac Ha, which is 70 km Northeast of Lao Cai. The ride is relatively flat from Lao Cai to Bao Nhai, where you will be taken through the rural area. Situated in the mountains in the border area, 20 km from Bac Ha, Can Cau is a small, but very colorful market.

Opening only on Saturdays, it always delivers a very photogenic display of Flower Hmong, Black Zao, Phu La ethnic costumes. Chinese people also come for trading. After spending the whole morning exploring the market, you will leave the market for Bac Ha town for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will take a walk to Ban Pho village of Nung and Flower Hmong, which is located in a small valley. The villagers grow vegetables and fruit trees. One of the most famous fruits of the area is plum.

You will be able to visit a local house, where you might have the chance to taste a cup of corn wine, another famous product of the village. You will go back to the hotel late in the afternoon and then have dinner in a local restaurant.
Approx: 3-hour driving/ 1.5 hours walking.

Day 2 (Sunday): Sapa Tours to Can Cau and Bac Ha Markets for 2 Days : Bac Ha – Trung Do – boat trip to Coc Ly – Lao Cai (-/L/-)

After having a morning coffee, you take a short walk to visit the old castle of the former Hmong King. From there you can have a view over the town. You will then visit the huge market of Bac Ha with its colorful array of ethnic minority people such as Flower Hmong, Phu La, Black Dao, Tay, Nung who gather to buy and sell. After spending the whole morning exploring the market, your lunch will be served in a local restaurant.

After lunch, you drive downhill for about half an hour. You will then start a short walk to Trung Do village, which belongs to the Tay minority. Here you can visit a traditional Tay house, before getting on a boat. You will have a cruise upstream the Chay River to experience the picturesque scenes on the river banks. You will then cruise downstream to the Bao Nhai Bridge, where you get on the car for the journey back.
Approx: 2-hour driving/ 1 hours walking/ 1.5 hours boat cruise.
Note: The trip is based on the day of arrival/ departure of the night train to/ from Hanoi.

Departure time from Sapa should be no later than 8.00.

No, all inclusions and exclusions are mentioned at our final confirmation for your trip. Generally, tipping is not compulsory. If you are satisfied with your guides, drivers, a small gratuity is an appropriate way in which to show appreciation to them.

How can I get Vietnam visa on arrival?

For those who travel with VIETLONG TRAVEL, we can arrange the visa approval letter allowing them to obtain a visa on arrival at Noibai Airport in Hanoi, Danang Airport in Danang, Tan San Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh. After 3-4 working days, we will send you the visa approval letter. We charge US$ 50 for visa on arrival at the airport. This fee is subject to change without prior notice.

How safe is Vietnam?

Vietnam is a relatively safe country to visit but there are increasing instances of theft, especially in HCMC where pickpockets and snatch thieves on motorbikes are common. The best tip is to be vigilant at all times. Leave all valuables at home, and make sure you have a firm grip on cameras and shoulder bags at all times. Our guides will advise you on dos and don'ts case by case.

What about medical insurance?

It is advised that travelers should have medical insurance before arriving in Vietnam. Although there are several international medical clinics in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, generally the country still lacks adequate medical care for serious illnesses and injuries. We advise travelers to have sufficient cover for emergency medical care as a precautionary measure.

The Sales manager was in contact with us all the time and promptly for our acceptable length of 13 days; ensuring everything was going well. Our stay and guide in Cambodia was exceptional even though we chose the 3-4 star option. Hoi An was amazing with a hotel with first class service and room; even though we arranged most of our activities prior before leaving home. The guide was kind and made good recommendations for the tailors and additional activities. The hotels in Saigon and Hanoi were conveniently located to the old town and night markets and the company included adequate activites in these two busy cities. The highlights of our tour with exceptional guides for the provided tours were Angkor Wat in Siem Reap and Halong Bay on Hanoi and the Saigon Cu Chi tunnels and City tour. Excellent tour guides who were friendly and knowledgeable. Great to have private car and guide for all activities and the tour guide was able to tailor the activity to our needs and wishes. The young type guide we had for the walking tour of Hanoi was brilliant. He was so pleasant to talk with and so knowledgeable and did everything he could to make the tour memorable including lending me his jacket to cover my shoulders when going in to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum as I had worn a sleeveless top. Another guide sorted out an internal flight for us when it's had been cancelled and got us through priority so we could catch it. Altogether very well organised and good communication throughout. Thank you. Would certainly recommend.
