This mountain bike trip will take you to some of the most scenic areas Northern Vietnam. Travelling through stunning mountainous landscape to the highest stretch of road in Vietnam, called Heavens Gate. You will cycle downhill to Tam Duong village passing through Binh Lu. Along the way, you will pass through remote picturesque villages and rice paddy fields of breathtaking beauty – you are sure to need more than one photo stop on this journey. Camp will be set up along a beautiful riverbank. You will also be able to walk around the small town of Lai Chau. On the last day you will arrive at the historically famous town of Dien Bien Phu. From time to time during the trip you will be transported by Jeep. The trip includes 2 nights in hotel.

Day 1 – Sapa Bicycle Tours to Dien Bien Phu via Paso, Sin Ho, Lai Chau : Sapa Biking Tours – Heavens Gate – Binh Lu Biking to Tam Duong

You will start out from Sapa by cycling up the Vietnam’s highest pass to “Heavens Gate”. A break at the top of the pass will give you the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque view of the Sapa valley and the long snake-shaped road, which you will pass by later. You will then continue the cycle through the fantastic mountainous landscape to Binh Lu, home to a number of ethnic villages such as the Black Dao, The Giay… You will then probably need the help of the supply jeep to go up another high pass, before enjoying the easy ride downhill all the way left to Tam Duong, where you stay overnight in a small hotel.

Day 2 – Sapa Bicycle Tours to Dien Bien Phu via Paso, Sin Ho, Lai Chau : Tam Duong Biking Tours to Phong Tho – Paso Homestay Tours

If today falls on Thursday or Sunday, you will be able to visit the Tam Duong market, which always delivers a very photogenic display of White Hmong, Flower Hmong, Nhang and Pu Na ethnic costumes.
You will start out from Tam Duong by taking the jeep to the pass between Tam Duong and Phong Tho. From there you have a 15 kilometers downhill ride on a dirt road before turning right towards the market town of Phong Tho, situated on a picturesque tributary of the Na River. A small road then leads you through the unexplored area of a number of ethnic villages and acres of lush riverside banana plantation to the small town of Paso.

Day 3 – Sapa Bicycle Tours to Dien Bien Phu via Paso, Sin Ho, Lai Chau : Paso Biking Tours to Sin Ho – Lai Chau Biking Tours

The road today weaves its way through the picturesque Na river valley, past many small villages of Red and White Hmong, Kho Mu and White Thai ethnic minorities. The sound of the river running below follows you all along the ride until you reach to Lai Chau early afternoon. Then you will have the opportunity of having a walk around in the small town, soft trekking in the mountains, floating downstream the river…or just taking a shower and relax over a cup of coffee or a beer.

Day 4 – Sapa Bicycle Tours to Dien Bien Phu via Paso, Sin Ho, Lai Chau : Lai Chau Biking Tours to Dien Bien Phu

Today is the easiest day on the trip. You will start out by jeep for the first 30 km before cycling downhill to Muong Lay village. The road from Muong Lay to Dien Bien Phu is sealed, making your ride more enjoyable. Again today you will pass more ethnic villages of White Thai, Red and White Hmong and Kho Mu minorities.
In the afternoon you will reach Dien Bien Phu and 4 amazing adventure days on the bikes are over.

How do I pay for the trip?

Our standard payment policy is to ask for a 30% deposit of the package value at the time we send the final confirmation and the booking code for your trip. The balance of the total package tour price should be paid at least 21 days before starting date of the trip.

Is there any hidden cost? What about tipping?

No, all inclusions and exclusions are mentioned at our final confirmation for your trip. Generally, tipping is not compulsory. If you are satisfied with your guides, drivers, a small gratuity is an appropriate way in which to show appreciation to them.

How can I get Vietnam visa on arrival?

For those who travel with VIETLONG TRAVEL, we can arrange the visa approval letter allowing them to obtain a visa on arrival at Noibai Airport in Hanoi, Danang Airport in Danang, Tan San Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh. After 3-4 working days, we will send you the visa approval letter. We charge US$ 50 for visa on arrival at the airport. This fee is subject to change without prior notice.

How safe is Vietnam?

Vietnam is a relatively safe country to visit but there are increasing instances of theft, especially in HCMC where pickpockets and snatch thieves on motorbikes are common. The best tip is to be vigilant at all times. Leave all valuables at home, and make sure you have a firm grip on cameras and shoulder bags at all times. Our guides will advise you on dos and don'ts case by case.

What about medical insurance?

It is advised that travelers should have medical insurance before arriving in Vietnam. Although there are several international medical clinics in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, generally the country still lacks adequate medical care for serious illnesses and injuries. We advise travelers to have sufficient cover for emergency medical care as a precautionary measure.

The Sales manager was in contact with us all the time and promptly for our acceptable length of 13 days; ensuring everything was going well. Our stay and guide in Cambodia was exceptional even though we chose the 3-4 star option. Hoi An was amazing with a hotel with first class service and room; even though we arranged most of our activities prior before leaving home. The guide was kind and made good recommendations for the tailors and additional activities. The hotels in Saigon and Hanoi were conveniently located to the old town and night markets and the company included adequate activites in these two busy cities. The highlights of our tour with exceptional guides for the provided tours were Angkor Wat in Siem Reap and Halong Bay on Hanoi and the Saigon Cu Chi tunnels and City tour. Excellent tour guides who were friendly and knowledgeable. Great to have private car and guide for all activities and the tour guide was able to tailor the activity to our needs and wishes. The young type guide we had for the walking tour of Hanoi was brilliant. He was so pleasant to talk with and so knowledgeable and did everything he could to make the tour memorable including lending me his jacket to cover my shoulders when going in to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum as I had worn a sleeveless top. Another guide sorted out an internal flight for us when it's had been cancelled and got us through priority so we could catch it. Altogether very well organised and good communication throughout. Thank you. Would certainly recommend.
