For those who prefer a gentle and easy river to be able to watch and relax, a trip on the Nam Khan River is the answer. Besides enjoying the views of rural life on the riverbanks, we will stop at three famed sites in the surroundings of Luang Prabang.
Itinerary :
Half day tour option: Laos Kayaking Tours from Luang Prabang – Ban Had Hient – Luang Prabang
We depart from Our Office in Luang Prabang at 12.30 toward Pick Noi. Our guide will give you some instruction and safety talk of kayaking for about 20 minutes. We then paddle down stream to the small funny rapids. We take a short visit to the tomb of the 19th century French explorer Henri Mouhot; the first European to rediscover Angkor Wat and to visit the Royal Kingdom of Luang Prabang and then continue paddling to Ban Had Hien, an iron knife making village. From here, we return to Luang Prabang.
Approximately: 3 hours kayaking/1 hour transfer.

We depart from Our Office in Luang Prabang for a drive of half an hour to the starting point on the banks of the Nam Khan, at the village of Ban Mout. Basic kayak instructions will be carried out and we then practice with our experienced guides before heading down the river.
It takes 2 hours to the first break, at the Tad Sae Waterfall. Its limestone cascades with florescent turquoise pools between the trees offer a stunning sight. Option: Kayaking to Tad Sea can be replaced by trekking from Ban Long Or After a picnic lunch, there is time for swimming at Tad Sae. We continue paddling though beautiful landscape around 2 ½ hours until reaching the Tomb of 19th century French Explorer, Henri Mouhot, a natural scientist was the first European to rediscover Angkor Wat and traveled all the way to Luang Prabang.
A last stop (optional) on the way back to Luang Prabang can be made at a traditional weaving village of Ban Phanom or an iron knife making village of Had Hient We continue to paddle to Khoua Mai, a new bridge, where a pick-up awaits for transfer back to Luang Prabang.
Approximately: 1 hour transfer / 5 and half hours kayaking.
Note:
The Rivers are very low and much slower towards the end of the dry season. The best time for kayaking and rafting is from June to December. These are also the best months for visiting Tad Sae.
