SPECIAL CAMBODIA KAYAKING AND CAMPING TOUR
Activities in The San River in Stung Treng

Depart Phnom Penh by private car directly to Stung Treng (stopping for lunch in Kratie). Overnight at an excellent riverside hotel (a/c, hot water) or a nature lodge located outside of town (basic facilities, private balcony, river view).

Stung Treng is a northern province of Cambodia. It was formerly called Xieng Teng and was once a part of the vast Khmer Empire, then the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang and later the Lao kingdom of Champassack. During the period of French Indochina it was again ceded to Cambodia.

The provincial capital is also named Stung Treng and is an important trade hub with a few hints of Lao influence scattered about, owing to the fact that the Lao border is about 50 km away. It’s a friendly, quiet country town situated on the confluence of the San River and the Mekong River. It actually sits on the banks of the San River, with the mighty Mekong coming into the picture on the northeastern outskirts of he town.

Day 2 – Special Cambodia Kayaking And Camping Tour: Strung Treng – Trekking & Camping in Jungles (B/L/D)

Travel north by car and then by boat to a remote site on the Mekong where we will disembark and begin trekking through hills and pristine old growth forests. After a couple of hours of trekking, we will emerge from the thick jungle to a wide rocky expanse where the Mekong drops in a spectacular waterfall over a rocky ledge. After listening to the roar of the powerful river and exploring the numerous drops, we will board a boat and continue to a small island where we will set up camp on a sandy beach and enjoy dinner around a campfire.
