This four day Yangon Tour Of Highlights is a great way to discover Burma’s economic and cultural center. You will have the chance to see all the main sites such as the Shwedagon Pagoda and Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda as well as teashops and neighborhood temples. You will also have time to explore the city at your own leisurely pace before your Yangon experience ends.

Day 1 – Yangon Tour Of Highlights: Arrival –  Yangon Sightseeing Tours

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our Guide who will accompany you as you transfer to the hotel. Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is a relatively quiet and charming city. Its impressive colonial and spiritual heritage makes it one of the most fascinating cities in Southeast Asia.

This afternoon, your sightseeing begins with a visit to Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, which houses a 70-meter reclining Buddha. Continue to Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar. The central stupa is over 90 meters tall and gilded with gold leaf- a breathtaking and colorful sight which dominates the city skyline. Overnight in Yangon.

Optional Visit: The Thiripyitsaya Sky Bistro is perched on the 20th floor of Sakura Tower, overlooking panoramic views of metropolis. From here, one can get the scenic view of Yangon River and the environs. It is fascinating place to visit; one can share the freshness of unforgettable days in Myanmar with their family and friends at home.

Day 2 – Yangon Tour Of Highlights: Yangon City Package Tours ( B/-/- )

After breakfast, you will transfer to Yangon Railway station to take local circular train journey to (image) the outskirts of town (45 minutes ride). The slowly traveling train gives you a unique opportunity to observe the lively and colorful life of the rural Burmese people.

Disembark to visit Insein market where a variety of street vendors sell colorful wares. Enjoy exploring the market and meeting the friendly locals before returning by road to Yangon. This afternoon enjoy a city tour by car or rickshaw around the colonial area which is filled various historical buildings.

Stop for a drink at a local teashop, a great place to soak in the local culture and lifestyle, before traveling along the famous Strand Road to the riverside. Continue to Bogyoke Market, formerly known as Scott’s Market, where you can browse through the wide selection of Myanmar handicrafts and other goods (Note: closed on Mondays and public holidays). As today comes to a close, take a stroll around colorful Chinatown and visit one of Yangon’s Chinese temples.

Day 3 – Yangon Tour Of Highlights– Bago or Twante – Yangon Sightseeing Tours ( B /-/- )

Today you have the choice of visiting two nearby townships to Yangon.

Option 1: After breakfast at the hotel, depart Yangon for the scenic road journey to Bago. Located 80km northwest of Yangon, Bago was the capital of the 6th century Mon kingdom and is filled with historic temples. Your visit in Bago includes ShwethalyaungTemple which houses a beautiful 55-meter long reclining Buddha.

You will also visit the Mon-style Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most venerated in Myanmar and its 114 meter spire is taller than the one at Shwedagon Pagoda. Before departing Bago, visit the well-restored former palace, Kambozathadi, which was the marvel of Asia when it was originally built in the 16th century. On the way back to Yangon, stop at the Allied War Cemetery near Htaukkyan. This beautiful, peaceful cemetery is the final resting place for over 27,000 Allied soldiers.

Option 2: After breakfast, you will drive to the Pansodan Jetty in Yangon, where you transfer to a ferry headed across the river. Upon landing on shore, take a taxi along the Twante Canal, catching sight of local life as you make your way to the town of Twante. Twante is a small village specialized in traditional pottery.

Visit the charming township of Twante and get an up-close look at the amazing Shwesandaw Pagoda on this private tour. The pagoda is said to contain the hairs of Buddha, and is a popular destination among both tourists and Buddhist pilgrims. Spend a day exploring the village with an expert guide, learning about its famous pottery industry and immersing yourself in the local culture.

After Shwesandaw Pagoda, enjoy the scenery as you take a trishaw ride through the small villages and past sights such as the local market. The township is known for its beautiful, handcraft pottery, and you can visit a number of workshops with your guide. Stop at a ceramics making area where more than twenty family workshops produce ceramic pots using centuries old methods. Conclude your day with a taxi and ferry journey back to your Yangon.

Day 4 – Yangon Tour Of Highlights: Depart Yangon ( B /-/- )

This morning is free for you to explore the city at your leisure. Your car and guide are at disposal until it is time to transfer to the Yangon International Airport for your departure flight.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR MYANMAR:
  • Please note that credit cards and traveller cheques are not accepted in Myanmar and that visitors must be bring sufficient cash (best in US Dollars, but Euros also increasingly accepted) to change and make any purchases and payments. Please bring new US Dollar bills (“big heads” instead of “small heads”) and with series numbers not starting with CB as these are not accepted in Myanmar due to rumours these series are counterfeit.

  • Furthermore please inform passengers that they should NOT change money at the exchange booth at the airport just after immigration, as the market rate in town is MUCH better.

  • A surcharge might apply for peak season dates (Water Festival 12-18 April, X’Mas, New Year, etc.)

  • Travellers to Myanmar are required to have a travel insurance covering the cost of medical evacuation flights.

  • Visas are required by all visitors to Myanmar. A visa must be obtained before entering Myanmar or On Arrival Visa is available at all international airports (Yangon & Mandalay). The visa application form is also available at all international airline linked with Myanmar or on-line. To apply on arrival visa, one must have 2 passport photo (4×6 cm) taken within last 6 months and passport must be valid 6 months after arrival date.
