Day 2 – Mysterious Cambodia Kayaking Expedition: Full Day of Kayaking Trip in Stung Treng (B/L/D)
Travel north along the Mekong to the village of O Sway near the Lao border and begin a full-day kayaking trip down river through remote flooded forests of Cambodia’s amazing Ramsar Wetlands. A boat will provide backup. Many varieties of birds live in these forests.
Picnic lunch en route provided. Return to Stung Treng in the evening. Stung Treng is a northern province of Cambodia. It was formerly called Xieng Teng and was once a part of the vast Khmer Empire, then the Lao kingdom of Lan Xang and later the Lao kingdom of Champassack. During the period of French Indochina it was again ceded to Cambodia.
The provincial capital is also named Stung Treng and is an important trade hub with a few hints of Lao influence scattered about, owing to the fact that the Lao border is about 50 km away. It’s a friendly, quiet country town situated on the confluence of the San River and the Mekong River. It actually sits on the banks of the San River, with the mighty Mekong coming into the picture on the northeastern outskirts of he town.

Day 3 – Mysterious Cambodia Kayaking Expedition: Stung Treng – Kratie – Sightseeing Tours (B/L/-)
Leave Stung Treng by bicycle along a scenic river route, passing through villages and having opportunities to visit a temple, a school and scenic river views. After 25 km of cycling, we will board kayaks and begin kayaking down river, stopping at sandy islands and watching for rare Mekong River Dolphins. After lunch at a deep dolphin pool, transfer by car to Kratie, arriving in time for sunset over the Mekong.
Overnight at a riverside hotel.
Day 4 – Mysterious Cambodia Kayaking Expedition: Kratie – Phnom Penh (B/L/-)
Transfer by car to the Mekong River south of Kompong Cham and board a ferry boat to cross to the Silk Islands. Enjoy a picnic and swim at a sandy beach on the tip of the northern-most island and make numerous excursions on the islands including visits to an island pagoda, local silk weaving communities, farms, villages and schools as we cycle across two islands.
From the quiet east bank of the Mekong, we will board a two-deck cruise boat for a comfortable journey to Phnom Penh, enjoying great views of river life, fishing practices, a floating village, the four rivers region and the city. Watch the sunset over the river while enjoying a BBQ dinner and drinks on board before arriving at Phnom Penh. Cycling: 20 km. Want to add Ratanakiri on to this trip?
